When The Investigator sails into North-West waters in coming days, part of the mission will be to search the ocean floor for the remains of the wooden barque, the Empress of China, which was wrecked bear Hunter Island in 1888, on its way from Geelong to Hobart.

Students will also be immersed in in the full suite of marine science operations, from atmospheric and oceanographic studies to surveys of deep-sea ecosystems and marine life, sea-floor mapping and sediment sampling, as well as hunting for the shipwreck.
