A Tasmanian man who was diagnosed with bowel cancer at age 36 is planning to run 12 marathons in 12 days from Cockle Creek in the South of the State to Stanley, starting on Saturday to raise awareness of condition.

Matt Duggan says the 12 marathons will correspond to the 12 rounds of chemotherapy he went through during his treatment and is also using the event as a fundraiser for The Cancer Council Tasmania.

He has already raised more than $46,000 of his $50,000 target.
