TasPorts Wind Energy Plan

TasPorts is to undertake a large expansion at Bell Bay to create a Bass Strait Renewable Energy Terminal.

It’s in the wake of the declaration of the Bass Strait offshore wind zone off the coast of Tasmania.

TasPorts Chief Executive Anthony Donald sums up the importance of the announcement.

“This is a generational transformational project for Tasmania but also I think for southern Australia and nationally significant, it will secure and provide clarity for various proponents for up to 25 hectares of land to support renewable energy.”

Chief at the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone Susie Bower is hailing the plan.

“You’ve got the competitive advantage of having a deep sea port right right next to available industrial land and that is what is required for the offshore market as well as onshore wind for storage and laydown areas.”
