A half a century of basketball competition on the Coast will be celebrated next month when the state’s premier competition, the North West Basketball Union, mark’s its 50th anniversary.
The anniversary will be celebrated with a gala dinner at the Paranaple Convention Centre in Devonport on February 8, at which men’s and women’s teams of the decade for five decades will be announced, along with an all-star women’s and men’s team covering the entire history of the competition.
The NWBU competition has remained largely unchanged since it started in 1974 with teams from Latrobe, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, Burnie, Somerset, Wynyard and Smithton, using fierce inter-town rivalry to generate a highly competitive competition, the envy of many others around the country.
Tickets for the dinner are available through the NWBU, member clubs, or the Eventbrite website.
