Sidmouth harness racing trainer Wayne Yoles says his 7BU Burnie Cup winning horse Keayang Fitzy will most likely chase the Burnie and Devonport Harness Racing Cup double after a convincing win in the Burnie Cup on Sunday.
The six-year-old gelding, driven by Nathan Ford, hit the lead a lap and a half into the four and a half lap 2789 metre race and resisted all challenges, pulling away on the home straight, to convincingly win by 8.4 metres, from Gordon’s Bay and The Chancer.
Not rated by the bookies, the eventual winner paid $6 for the win and $2.15 for the place in front of a large crowd.
Yole says trainer says the gelding was purchased from Victoria by the owners to specifically to target regional cups, including Burnie.
The Devonport Harness Racing Cup, which hasn’t been held in Devonport since the Devonport Showground was sold almost three years ago, will again be held in Launceston on February 8th.
