The Burnie Hurricanes have fallen agonisingly short of taking out the Greater Northern Cricket Cup, being beaten by Launceston-based Riverside with just five balls to go in the last over.

The Hurricanes batted first and set Riverside a target of 189 runs, with Burnie opener Brodie Hayes scoring an unbeaten 79, well supported by Nick Revell with 78 runs.

Riverside bowler Kaidyn Apted was the best of the Blues bowlers with 6-29.

Despite in being in trouble at 5-58 in reply, the Blues steadied on the back of a solid 60 not out from Amritpal Singh.

With scores tied up at the start of the last over Singh fittingly hit the winning run to give Riverside the cup victory.

English import Ollie Walker was the best of the Burnie bowlers with 2-8.
