The Latrobe Council has passed a rates increase of 5.9% for the 2024-25 financial year.
Latrobe Mayor Peter Freshney says the rise will help fund ongoing costs with the $15.5 million Latrobe Flood Mitigation Project, the Banksia Centre redevelopment at Port Sorell and The Wild Mersey Trail Bike Network, as well as the introduction of Food Organic Garden Organic, or FOGO recycling, completion of the Latrobe Recreation Ground facilities upgrade and the Hawley Esplanade upgrade among others.
Latrobe is now the last council on the Coast to set its new rates.
Kentish ratepayers are facing the biggest slug in rates, with a 7.1% increase.
Waratah-Wynyard will have the smallest increase or just 2.95%, well below the consumer price index rise of 3.74%.
Devonport is next best with a 4.5% increase, while Burnie’s rates will only go up by 5% after councillors voted down a proposed 8.66% hike.
Central Coast ratepayers will have to pay 5.86% more this year, while Circular Head rates have gone up 6.5%.
