More housing on the way for domestic violence victim-survivors

The State Government has responded to last week’s Anglicare which labelled the North-West Coast as a domestic violence hot-spot.

The report, called Unsafe and Un-housed, showed reported family violence rates on the Coast are 35 per cent higher than the rest of the state and the number people seeking housing to escape from family violence was four times higher than the rest of the state.

Housing Minister and Braddon MP Felix Ellis says the Government is tripling its Family Violence Rapid Re-housing Programme, seeking expressions of interest for 100 more properties to provide transitional accommodation for people escaping family violence.

The transitional housing offers leases up to 12 months at subsidised rent, with property owners also receiving guaranteed rent for the period and tenancy and property management provided fee-free by Centacare Evolve Housing.

Mr Ellis has told State Parliament the programme is making a real difference to victim-survivors.
