There’s no need to be alarmed if you see or smell bushfire smoke in the coming days and weeks as authorities take advantage of the calm and drying conditions to undertake fuel reduction burns.

Emergency Services Minister and Braddon MP Felix Ellis says Tasmania’s Fuel Reduction Programme, a partnership between the Tasmania Fire Service, Parks and Wildlife Service, and Sustainable Timbers Tasmania, is now in its 11th year.

Mr Ellis says people on the North-West and West Coasts can expect to see more fuel reduction burns taking place over the coming days and weeks, reducing the risk of bushfire to communities and environment.

He says planned burns will be advertised on social media, and people can also use the TasALERT App to be notified when fuel reduction burns commence in their area.

Recent burns in the region have included operations at Strahan, Lees Paddocks, Dip Range and the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, while upcoming burns are planned for Wivenhoe near Burnie, as well as at Cradle Mountain and the Pieman Road near Tullah.
